i am slowly building a list of questions designed to help jw's "think" about the "truth".
please let me know if you think they can be refined or added to.. cheers,.
1. specifically, what was jesus looking for in 1918 when he looked upon the earth to identify his faithful and discrete slave?.
Why generally makes a better question to thave to think about than What.
Rephrase them into Whys...

how in the world can a religious organization that claims to be god's true channel on earth and led my his holy spirit have a majority of it's gb members vote yes on something, but it not pass because 2/3's didn't vote yes?
why would these supposely "spirit annointed" leaders of the "only true religion" not all be lead by holy spirit to pass an important mandate or change?
in coc ray franz talks of jw life affecting voting not passing because although it was a majority, it wasn't 2/3's or a gb member was gone during the vote.
Perhaps they saved Teddies voting arm and preserved it in phemaldehyde and get some flunky to wave the wet limb during voting sessions? They'd still have a round number then for votes. See, THEY think of EVERYTHING!!

The divination using Intestines was meant as a joke, or do you mean the holy spirit directing the GB?

I think a Quija board might do the trick Or maybe intestines to examine

Which is exactly what it is,... a man made organisation. I'll miss out the democratic part though, because they are not elected and answer to no one.

It could be seen that way, or else they had this policy come about as a way to try and avoid division in the GB.
If it needs an overwhelming majority (2/3s) then the other side will only be in the minority instead of nearer 50/50 then it can be seen to squash chances of division that having a split decision would offer.
Im not saying that's why, im just offering a possible reason for the policy. But whilst this possible reason for this 2/3s majority policy may offer this apparent benefit, it just plain sucks in it's practice and execution.

does anyone have any interesting observations since the book study arrangement in private homes finished?.
are jws happier with the extra night off?
do they miss the book study?
They do constantly badger the R&F about Family Worship evening now though, so as to make a point about not forgetting it and trying to guilt anyone having a night off.
Personally Im very glad for the night off, and when I get badgered about what I'm studying on that night I say with honesty that I read the bible every day so why should I do anything special on that night between 7pm and 9pm?
Reasons for the change as above, control control control. Nothing to do with price of fuel and personally I find it insulting to my intelligence that they rolled that out as an excuse for the change.
I know some do 30 minutes of looking stuff up in the Insight volume, but no real thought or research beyond that, some do do the Family Worship thing with effort for the kids etc and some just take the night off so it's a mixed bag.

hi, i dont post here too often, but i was reading the other post about why bad things happen, and i am curious for everyones thoughts on this: i have recently left about 9 months ago.
at first i thought i was closer to god and was reading the bible more than ever.... praying asking for help, clarity, etc.....but after a while i started to ask myself why would god answer my messily little prayers when hundreds of thousands were dieing in haiti?
the witness mindset that i remember was not to pray for things to happen, but for strength for yourself to do something.
On personal reflection I cant think of a single occaision when I could honestly say that one of my prayers was "answered" in any positive way.
Like I said, I got fed up with the one way conversation. I also struggle with the disconnect between Jehovah of the Old Testament who can easily be seen to be vengeful, jealous, merciless, and operating on overkill compared with Jesus of the New testament who displayed none of that.

Im with you on this one. I gave up praying (personal prayers) a couple of years ago. I think I have prayed once in that time about 6 months ago that was for clear direction as to whether the WTBTS was really his channel or not. You can guess the "answer" to that one.
Personally my attitude is this: I am insignificant, why clog up the system with my meaningless and often repetitive requests and confessions and occaisonal praise. Who the hell do i think I am to be so important that the God of the universe would deem to even hear it let alone answer it.?
That has been my thinking process which i am often told is incorrect as God is "the hearer of prayer" apparently. But I never liked the one way conversations.
What also put me off was thinking about the mechanics of prayer, how does prayer actually work? It travels faster than light if it works at all. Also I dont like the thought of the spirit realm with unseen "Watchers" (good or bad ones) observing my every move and action 24/7. Kind of freaks me out.
So now I content myself with not praying at all. There is less guilt and less fear, but also maybe less love too, but I can live with that.
Cheers
